This is a small thing that for some reason I got really excited about. . .
The other day I was noticing that since we now put so little garbage in our trash can that it sometimes starts to smell (because we may only empty it once a week). At the same time our recycling is always spilling in to piles all around the bin.
Our brilliant sitter suggested we switch the cans. DUH! She's a genius. Now we have a big, huge recycling bin and a nice, tiny, garbage bin. Didn't even have to buy anything new. Switcheroo!

Hey! That's great! What a good feeling to have more recycles than garbage. Congrats on your switcheroo!
I meant to ask you...can you elaborate on the things that have resulted in less trash? Inquiring minds want to know!
i think our trash is so small mostly because we are able to compost and recycle so much. this is a direct result of having specatular city programs for recycling and composting. i can recycle paper, glass and almost all plastics (even plastic lids to peanut butter). i can compost every single food scrap off our plates, including meat and paper products that have touched food (like napkins, pizza boxes, milk cartons, waxed paper, etc.) all that reamins to go in our trash seems to be random plastic wrap, like from a magazine or packaging material. if it weren't for our programs i don't think i'd be able to nearly as well.
